Flourishing between the 11th and 13th centuries, Polonnaruwa was the capital under King Parakramabahu I, who developed vast irrigation systems, temples, and royal palaces. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a time capsule of Sri Lanka’s golden age.
